Control Your Diabetes

ABOUT THE DISEASE:

Diabetes has become a global problem in spite of advances in modern science. 346 million people worldwide have diabetes. The WHO projects that diabetes deaths will double between 2005 and 2030. India has been projected by WHO as the country with the fastest growing population of Diabetic patients. The latest global figures on diabetes, released by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), has raised a serious alarm for India by saying that nearly 52% of Indians aren't aware that they are suffering from high blood sugar. India is presently home to 62 million diabetics - an increase of nearly 2 million in just one year. India is second only to China which is home to 92.3 million diabetics. By 2030, India's diabetes numbers are expected to cross the 100 million mark. It is estimated that between 1995 to 2025 diabetic patients in India will increase by 195%. Diabetes is also beginning to appear much earlier in life in India, meaning that chronic long-term complications are becoming more common. The implications for the Indian healthcare system are enormous.

Causes Of Diabetes

Diabetes Mellitus

Diabetes mellitus, or simply diabetes, is a group of metabolic diseases in which a person has high blood sugar, either because the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or because cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced.

Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes occurs when your immune system, the body’s system for fighting infection, attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas. Scientists think type 1 diabetes is caused by genes and environmental factors, such as viruses, that might trigger the disease.

Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes, the most common form of diabetes, is caused by several factors, including lifestyle factors (obesity and physical inactivity) and genes.

Tulsi has been shown to hinder platelet aggregation (the clumping together of blood platelets to form a clot) and thrombosis (the actual formation of the blood clot), suggesting the potential for heart attack and stroke prevention.

  • Helps Prevent Diabetic Complications: Helps correct the neuropathy, retinopathy (cataract), heart diseases and disturbed metabolism of glucose and lipids. Helps maintain the integrity of all organ systems affected by the disease and thus prevents diabetic complications

  • Helps Reduce Oxidative Stress: Oxidative stress is the main culprit that compounds problems in diabetics. Herbs due to their antioxidant properties helps reduce oxidative stress and the following damaging effects.
